Purnima Shradh will begin on 17th September 2024 (Tuesday)

Embrace Purnima Shradh 2024 with a Meaningful Gesture. Donate Food to the Needy in Honor of the Departed Souls.

Purnima Shradh refers to the ritualistic observance of offering homage to ancestors on the full moon day (Purnima) during the fortnight known as Pitrupaksha. Pitrupaksha is a dedicated period of 15 days in the Hindu lunar calendar when Hindus pay their respects to their departed ancestors. It is believed that during this time, the spirits of ancestors visit the Earth and can be honored and appeased through rituals and offerings.

Purnima Shradh holds great significance as it marks a specific day when the positive energies of the full moon are believed to enhance the connection with ancestors. On this day, people perform various rituals such as Tarpana (offering of water to ancestors), Pinda Daan (offering rice balls to ancestors), and prayers to seek blessings, forgiveness, and ancestral guidance.

Devotees observe Purnima Shradh with utmost reverence and offer food, water, and other items to satisfy the spiritual hunger of their ancestors. It is considered a way to express gratitude, seek blessings, and ensure the well-being and spiritual progress of the departed souls.

The observance of Purnima Shradh during Pitrupaksha is an integral part of Hindu culture, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a connection with one’s ancestors and honoring their memory. It is an occasion to remember and show respect to those who came before us and played a significant role in shaping our lives.
